Vision of Birmingham with a car-free city center

My Bachelor degree thesis was a hybrid project (between written and design option). I have decided to research and apply the concept of car-free city format to the city center of Birmingham. In the process of my conceptual proposal, I have managed to research on various topics (the essence of cities/the birth of urban settlements/city development through first and second industrial revolution/modernism approach to city planning/AV's/upcoming demographic and social challenges) which I have assumed to be essential to consider in order to ensure a viable solution
I have attempted the application of the concept of the carless city, consequently (if implemented) making it one of the largest car-free zone (800 hectares) in the world. One step further, due to existing infrastructures and preserved structures, the execution would have to be sensible and highly adaptive. Overall, I have attempted to present a solution to our urban environment issues which with time will only escalate and so far have proofed that by increasing investment into automobile infrastructure will only support higher levels of car traffic and require additional automobile orientated infrastructure such as car parking. Having in mind all of the problems caused by continuously growing numbers of car (car traffic), it only seemed right to change the principles of our planning system from the bottom-up, which would result in creating habitat for people rather than vehicles
In the end, my proposal tried to eliminate the necessity of owning and driving a car in the city center and adjacent areas. By providing a high quality spaces with multiple strategies ,one of them being an extensive green and blue infrastructure strategy, creates strong sense of place and give a reason for citizens to use alternative transportation options with the major two being walking and cycling. As what I have figured out from my analysis/research these are the only two transportation options supporting social interaction and a healthy (mentally and physically) lifestyles
